Employment Services - Good News Story - Ben Loveridge
Ben Loveridge, a Gardener/Grounds Maintenance Apprentice, was successful in securing a full-time position with the Grounds team at Oakleaf Commercial Services.
Prior to becoming an apprentice with Oakleaf, Ben had been doing seasonal retail work at West Midlands Safari Park which had come to an end, leaving him out of work for a month.
Ben was determined to move back into work and decided to enquire about any potential opportunities with The Community Housing Group. As a lover of hands-on outdoor work, he was pointed in the direction of Oakleaf Commercial Services to carry out work experience with the Grounds Services team. Over this time, he made a good first impression and it was suggested that he apply for the Apprenticeship position that was available within the team.
Ben said: “I have always wanted to work in Horticulture and was grateful for the opportunity of work experience which got my foot in the door. I’ve been able to gain new skills as well as learn a trade and get qualifications at the same time.
“I now have a Level 2 in Horticulture, Level 2 in Maths & English, my spraying licences and a full clean driving licence. To be honest, if it was not for the Apprenticeship, I probably would have delayed learning to drive. Taking part in the Apprenticeship has taught me how to act professionally in the workplace and communicate properly with customers and colleagues”.
Darren Robinson from Vestia, who supported Ben during his Apprenticeship, said: “I’m really pleased that Ben has secured a full time position with the company. He works really hard and is a credit to his team.”
Ben continued: “It was a brilliant Apprenticeship. I have learned a lot about the terminology used in Horticulture and have good knowledge around plant life and care. I would definitely recommend an Apprenticeship with The Community Housing Group”.
