Employment Services - Good News Story - Darren Tillman
Darren attended the Vestia Employability Programme in September 2017 after having been unemployed for over 6 months.
Before becoming unemployed, Darren had previously worked in a variety of physical and manual roles before suffering a back injury. Unfortunately this injury prevented Darren from returning to this type of work so he was looking for a change in career.
During the programme, Darren was able to correct several mistakes in his CV and made it relevant to the types of jobs he was applying for. He then used his CV to apply for a range of vacancies in retail and customer services. One of these vacancies was with William Hill bookmakers in Birmingham.
One week after the programme, Darren was contacted by William Hill and invited to an interview for a Customer Experience Assistant. He was successful and was offered the position. After several months working in Birmingham, Darren was given the opportunity to transfer to the Kidderminster store, which he took.
He is still working at William Hill and really enjoying the job, working with customers on a daily basis.
When asked about the Vestia Employability Programme, Darren said: “For me, the interview practice and the skills I learnt were invaluable and this was the main reason I was able to do well in the interview with William Hill and I got the job.”
Programme Tutor, Oliver Rimell, said: “Darren was in a difficult position when he joined the programme because he was looking to change career and do something he had not done before which is always difficult.
“During the programme, Darren showed that he was very motivated, had a good range of transferable skills and was willing to have a go at different types of work which was really important. I am really pleased that Darren was successful in his interview and that he is enjoying the job and progressing very well.”
