Employment Services - Good News Story - Josh Bell
Josh Bell, a local young man with a desire to work with animals, had completed a Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care along with a Level 2 ICT qualification whilst studying at college back in 2017. After a lot of thought, Josh decided to pursue work in this field and start to earn. After encountering a few difficulties in finding suitable work in this area without a Level 3 qualification, he was advised to explore opportunities with Vestia Training who support local people in finding work. Josh signed up to an 9 day Employability Course delivered by Vestia to gain all the tips, knowledge and support possible in terms of the job application and interview processes.
Josh completed the programme and kept in touch with Vestia through their weekly jobs club. During the jobs club, Josh made numerous applications and was eventually successful in securing employment with Pets at Home based in Bromsgrove.
We caught up with Josh who said: “ I’m really pleased that I got the job and happy that I get to work with animals. I have got an induction scheduled in and a couple of training days before my official start date in early September. I will be a part-time Store Colleague to begin with but have been advised that my hours may increase once I’ve settled into the role.”
We asked Josh what he was able to gain from the programme and whether he would recommend the course to others; he replied: “Thanks to the Employability programme, I was able to build confidence in making applications and presenting myself positively. I wanted to achieve another qualification that could be added to my CV to demonstrate that I’d been keeping myself busy and current while seeking work. The programme was really useful and I would recommend it to anybody who is unemployed.”
