Employment Services - Good News Story – Emma Powell
Emma is a tenant of The Community Housing Group and attended the Vestia Employability Programme in September 2018.
Before joining the programme, Emma had worked as a care worker for a care agency. Unfortunately, she found that the work the agency could offer was very inconsistent and this made it difficult to plan her time and have a reliable, consistent income. Eventually she stopped working for the agency but was still very keen to develop a career as a care worker.
During the programme, Emma was able to update her CV to a high standard and make it more relevant to the type employment she was looking for. Once it was completed, she then searched for vacancies and used her new CV to apply for several care jobs. Whilst on the programme, she also spent time developing her interview skills and improving her confidence in interview situations which was very important as she also attended “real” interviews during the programme.
Emma performed while in these interviews and was successful in gaining employment with Midlands Medicare as a domiciliary care worker. She was really pleased with this result and has already completed her first week's work.
When asked about the Vestia Employability Programme, Emma said: “I would recommend the course to other people because it not only helps with updating your CV and covering letter, it helps with interview skills and improving your knowledge.”
Programme Tutor, Oliver Rimell, said: “Emma was fantastic on the programme. She was very enthusiastic and motivated to find the right opportunities for her. Once Emma’s CV was updated, she was able to apply for various vacancies and was getting lots of positive responses. The interview preparation was also perfect timing for Emma as after this she attended “real” interviews and received an offer for employment.”
